Egg And Sperm Donations

At AFMC, we are committed to helping families grow through comprehensive and compassionate fertility solutions. We understand the challenges many face in their journey to parenthood, which is why we offer specialized services in egg and sperm donation. While we are not accepting donors now, we are dedicated to connecting prospective parents with the perfect match to help them realize their dreams of starting a family.

The Goal

Egg and sperm donations play a crucial role in assisted reproductive technologies, offering individuals and couples the chance to become parents when they cannot conceive with their gametes. Stringent ethical guidelines and regulations govern these processes to ensure the well-being and rights of all parties involved.

Egg Donation

Egg donation involves a woman donating her eggs for use in assisted reproduction procedures, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). Donors are typically women between 21 and 35 years old who undergo comprehensive screenings to assess physical, genetic, and psychological health, ensuring the safety and success of the donation process.

The donation process begins with the donor undergoing hormonal stimulation to produce multiple eggs. The eggs are then retrieved through a minor surgical procedure. These eggs can be fertilized in a laboratory with sperm from a recipient couple’s chosen donor or frozen for future use. The resulting embryos can be transferred to the recipient’s uterus or a gestational surrogate.

Egg donation can be anonymous, where the donor and recipient never meet, or known, where there is some level of interaction or agreement between the parties. In some jurisdictions, semi-anonymous donations are allowed, providing limited information about the donor to the child once they reach maturity.

Sperm Donation

Sperm donation involves a male donor providing his semen for use in fertility treatments, such as intrauterine insemination (IUI), IVF, or home insemination. Sperm donors undergo rigorous screening to ensure they are free from infectious diseases and genetic disorders and are in good overall health.

The donated sperm is processed in a laboratory to concentrate healthy sperm and remove other components of the semen. This processed sperm can be used immediately or stored in sperm banks.

As with egg donation, sperm donation can be either anonymous or known. In anonymous contributions, the donor’s identity remains confidential. In known contributions, the recipient may know the donor personally or through a sperm bank that allows some exchange of information.

Note to Potential Donors

Currently, American Fertility Medical Center is not accepting new donors. This allows us to provide exceptional service and support to our existing recipients, ensuring the highest success rates with our available donor resources.

Finding the Perfect Match

At American Fertility Medical Center, we use a detailed matching process to align potential parents with donor profiles that best meet their preferences and needs. This process is conducted with utmost care, confidentiality, and respect for all parties’ wishes.

Comprehensive Support System

Our team provides a supportive and informative environment from the initial consultation to the fertility treatment process. We ensure that you are fully informed and comfortable every step of the way, offering personalized support and guidance.

Ethical and Legal Considerations

Egg and sperm donation involves complex ethical and legal considerations, particularly regarding the rights of donors, recipients, and the resulting children. Laws vary by country and region but generally emphasize the child’s right to know their genetic origins and ensure that donors are not held responsible for children conceived from their donations.

These donations empower individuals and couples to pursue their dreams of parenthood while navigating a complex emotional, ethical, and legal landscape. We are committed to supporting the well-being of all parties involved.
